1) Why are you running to be a Member of Parliament?
My family has deep roots in Alberta. I was born and raised in a farming community in Northern Alberta and have worked in the area of agriculture.
I am running as a Liberal candidate because I was a credit advisor with the Farm Credit Canada and I understand the effect of agriculture on the rural areas and the food supply of Canada, as well as for various businesses who depend on the success of farmers.
Through the support of the Liberal Party of Canada (Alberta), as the Rural Outreach member of this board, I succeeded in having Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba farmers meet with the federal Agriculture Minister to discuss agriculture issues.
2) Why should people vote for you, and what skills do you have that make you suitable for this role?
The Leduc Wetaskiwin riding is very diversified: oil and gas, agriculture, manufacturing and a diversity of cultures.
I am an accomplished accountant with a proven track record. I worked for over 25 years having worked as a Chartered Professional Accountant/Certified General Accountant. I was an auditor of large corporations and multi-nationals for the Alberta Treasury Board and Finance, protecting Alberta’s finances. I worked for the Canada Revenue Agency at various levels as an income tax and GST auditor.
I want to work with the oil and gas sector to reduce their emissions in a cost effective and efficient manner; we cannot lose sight of our obligation to address climate change while ensuring the long-term competitiveness of Canada’s energy sector.
I want to support Indigenous community’s engagement on projects to help building their economic and job creation capabilities and strengthen their cultural identity and preservation.
I want to protect farmers by committing to supply management and supply-managed sectors. I want to promote and build more domestic processing capacity, including food processing capacity in rural and remote areas and review support for farmers, ranchers, and producers to access new markets for their food products. I am dedicated to continuing efforts in planning for growth and sustainability of all sectors of agriculture.
I support the building of new homes that qualify under the Liberal Housing Plan with Canadian lumber.
I am working with and I continue to support Alberta beekeepers and the Canadian Beekeeping Federation in efforts to import healthy bee packages. These imports are essential for ensuring the sustainability of Canada’s beekeeping industry and securing reliable pollination for the agricultural industry and fruit growers nationwide.
3) What will you advocate for; and do you intend to fully toe the party line?
I want to work on aggressively developing projects to protect Canada’s energy security, diversify our trade, and enhance our long-term competitiveness – all while reducing emissions.
I want to build up conventional and clean energy potential and build trading relationships with reliable partners.
I want to improve apprenticeship training and to create more training opportunities in the skilled trades, so more workers can join these professions and secure higher-paying careers. I want to help establish a new capital funding stream for colleges to support new training spaces for apprenticeships and new apprentices get hired by Alberta employers.
I will support the party line for the benefit of Alberta and Canada, all the while answering to the needs of the Leduc Wetaskiwin riding.
4) How do you believe Canada’s federal government should tackle its current predicament with the United States, and where do you sit on Canadian sovereignty?
I agree with Prime Minister Carney that Canada has to work with other countries to build a better economic relationship and diversify our exports and imports with reliable relationships protecting Canada’s economy, jobs, and market for our resources. Canada has to be strong and united coast to coast using our Canadian resources to support our sovereignty.
