The Drayton Valley Thunder played a back-to-back, home-and-away series against the Devon Xtreme on Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15, winning both games 9-3, then played host to the Calgary Canucks on Monday, Feb. 17, winning that game 4-1.

Gabriel Filion only needed 0:39 to score the first goal of the game for the Thunder on Friday. Cooper Brown and Jace Moffatt picked up the assists on Filion’s eighth goal of the season to make it 1-0.
Drayton Valley’s Reid Larson then scored his third goal of the season at 5:57 with assists from Brett Wall and Anton Yastyshin to make it 2-0.
Cooper Brown extended the Thunder’s lead to 3-0 at 6:32 with his 17th goal of the season. Brown’s goal was assisted by Gabriel Filion and Justin Ivanusec.
Levy Kozma got the Xtreme on the board at 7:13 with his 17th goal of the season. Kozma’s goal was assisted by Hunter Yanick and Jaren Ashbee.
Later, Thunder defenceman Jace Mofatt scored his seventh goal of the season at 12:50, to make it 4-1. Reid Larson and Matthias Bessey assisted on that goal.
Caedem Emmett wrapped up the first period scoring for the Thunder with his third goal of the season, assisted by Jack Sears and Kohyn Pipke, at 14:00, making it 5-1.
The Devon Xtreme pulled goaltender Koen Tyssen after this goal and replaced him with Leo Den Besten. Tyssen made seven saves on the 12 shots he faced.
At the end of the first period, the Drayton Valley Thunder had outshot the Devon Xtreme 18-15 and took a 5-1 lead into the first intermission.
Anton Yatsyshin scored a power play goal at 11:16 of the second period to extend the Thunder’s lead to 6-1. Justin Ivanusec and Luke Marley assisted on Yatsyshin’s 12th goal of the season.
Cooper Brown then made it 7-1 when he scored his 18th goal of the season at 13:49, with help from Tucker Tulikopf and Justin Ivanusec.
Later, Lucas Knorr scored the second goal of the game for the Xtreme at 18:23, of the second period to make it 7-2. Owen Mastroianni and Austen Wentz assisted on Knorr’s fifth goal of the season.
At the end of the second period, the Drayton Valley Thunder had outshot the Devon Xtreme 18-10 and took a 7-2 lead into the second intermission.
Jason Huang scored the last goal of the game for the Xtreme at 7:13 of the third period, with Harrison Boldt and Levy Kozma credited with the assists on Huang’s third goal of the season.
Drayton Valley’s Cooper Brown then scored his 19th goal of the season, shorthanded and unassisted at 7:48 of the third period to make it an 8-3 game. Kohyn Pipke would score the final goal of the game, his sixth goal of the season at 19:12, with assists from Billy Hooson and Daniel Zhou to secure the Thunders’ 9-3 victory.
Devon Xtreme goaltender Leo Den Besten made 37 saves on the 41 shots he faced in relief of Koen Tyssen.
Drayton Valley Thunder goaltender Nicholas Cristiano made 36 saves on the 39 shots he faced in support of the Thunder’s 9-3 win.

Cooper Brown opened the scoring for Drayton Valley on Saturday just 0:27 into the first period. Brown’s 20th goal of the season was assisted by Justin Ivanusec and Reid Larson to make it 1-0 Thunder.
Jaxen Smyth tied the game 1-1 for the Xtreme at 1:13 with his seventh goal of the season. Smyth’s goal was assisted by Levy Kozma and Jason Huang.
Karter Radtke gave the Xtreme their only lead of the game at 2:03, when he scored his third goal of the season. Jaren Ashbee and Jake Sokoloski were credited with the assists on that goal.
The Thunder then scored five unanswered goals, starting with Brett Wall’s first of the season at 4:56, with assists from Daniel Zhou and Anton Yatsyshin.
The Thunder also had goals from Tucker Tullikopf at 7:08 and 19:28, Justin Ivanusec on a power play at 8:22; and Luke Marley, also on a power play, at 13:32.
Tullikopf’s 10th goal of the season was assisted by Matthias Bessey and Billy Hooson.
Ivanusec’s sixth goal of the season, meanwhile, was assisted by Luke Marley and Cooper Brown.
Marley’s 11th goal of the season was assisted by Jace Moffatt and Cooper Brown.
Tucker Tulikopf’s 11th goal of the season was assisted by Matthias Bessey and Luke Marley.
At the end of the first period, the Drayton Valley Thunder had outshot the Devon Xteme 15-12 and took a 6-2 lead into the first intermission.
After the break, Jaren Ashbee scored his first goal of the season for the Xtreme just 0:54 into the second period with assists from Levy Kozma and Jaxen Smyth.
Justin Ivanusec then scored his second goal of the game and seventh of the season on a power play at 2:39. Luke Marley and Tucker Tulikopf picked up the assists on that goal.
Cooper Brown scored his second goal of the night and 21st of the season for Drayton Valley at 5:53, with Dryden Tomkow and Tafari Chingwaru credited with the assists on the last goal of the second period.
The Devon Xtreme pulled goaltender Tyler Swanson after this goal and replaced him with Leo Den Besten. Swanson had made 14 saves on the 22 shots he faced.
At the end of the second period, the Drayton Valley Thunder had outshot the Devon Xtreme 12-8 and took an 8-3 lead into the second intermission.
The Thunder’s Dryden Tomkow scored the only goal of the third period shorthanded, with assists from Cooper Brown and Kohyn Pipke at 11:32. It was Tomkow’s fourth goal of the season.
At the end of the third period, the Devon Xtreme had outshot the Drayton Valley Thunder 11-10 but the Thunder outshot the Xtreme 37-31 in total.

The Thunder wrapped up a busy long weekend with a 4-1 win over the Calgary Canucks on Monday, Feb. 17.
Drayton Valley’s Justin Invanusec scored the first goal of the game 7:20 into the first period. Anton Yatsyshin and Marco Oliviero were credited with the assists on Ivanusec’s eighth goal of the season.
At the end of the first period, the Calgary Canucks had outshot the Drayton Valley Thunder 13-8 but the Thunder took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Thunder’s Tucker Tullikopf then scored his 12th goal of the season at 8:36 of the second period with an assist from Luke Marley.
Later, Drayton Valley’s Gabriel Filion and Justin Ivanusec assisted on Kohyn Pipke’s seventh goal of the season at 17:42 to wrap up scoring in the second period.
At the end of the second period, the Drayton Valley Thunder had outshot the Calgary Canucks 17-10 and extended their lead to 3-0 heading into the second intermission.
In the final frame, Cooper Brown kept the pressure on for the Thunder and scored his 22nd goal of the season at 11:01 to extend the Thunders lead to 4-0. Justin Ivanusec and Gabriel Filion were credited with the assists.
Riley Bracko spoiled the shutout bid for Nicholas Cristiano, however, by scoring a power play goal at 18:51. Bracko’s 10th goal of the season was assisted by Nolan DuPont and Hayden Fechner.
The Calgary Canucks outshot the Drayton Valley Thunder 14-7 in the third period and 37-32 in total but the Thunder took home the 4-1 victory.
Calgary Canucks’ goaltender Lukas Renaud made 28 saves on the 32 shots he faced.
Drayton Valley Thunder goaltender Nicholas Cristiano made 36 saves on the 37 shots he faced in support of the Thunder’s victory.

The Drayton Valley Thunder now have a record of 21-16-4-3, for a total of 49 points placing them fifth in the AJHL South Division and eighth in the overall league standings.
The Thunder are back in action on Friday, Feb. 21, as they head out to Fort McMurray to take on the Oil Barons.
