Brazeau County council approved two bylaws at their regular meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Council passed Bylaw 1193-24, the Schedule of Fees for 2025, which accounts for the increase in the price of folding maps for sale in town, changes to the Lodgepole Campground for 2025 and the establishment of a fee for revisions of approved subdivision applications.
The changes made under Bylaw 1193-24 are as follows:
- The price of folding maps available for sale to the public will be increasing for the first time in 10 years, from $10 to $12.50.
- Community Services is planning to run the Lodgepole Campground as 10 individual slots in 2025 instead of a group campground with an estimated Site Fee of $35.00/night.
- Council created a $50.00 fee for the revision of previously approved subdivision developments.
The second bylaw passed at the meeting on Dec. 17 was Criminal Record Check Bylaw 1196-24.
This bylaw requires all prospective candidates for the 2025 municipal election to submit a criminal record check with their nomination papers. The bylaw also states the check must be completed by the RCMP detachment in the local jurisdiction no more than six months before the date the nomination papers are submitted to the returning officer.
Officials note that the mailing address, date of birth, and any other information that, in the opinion of the returning officer, would compromise the safety of the candidate will be redacted prior to any public viewing.
Members of the public may request to view nomination packages and criminal record checks at the County office but will not be allowed to remove them from the office, take photos of the documents or make any kind of copy of the documents.
Criminal record checks can be obtained at the candidates’ local RCMP detachment.
Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the Brazeau County returning officer by emailing election@brazeau.ab.ca.
