Alberta Health Services (AHS) announced on Thursday the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre Emergency Department will be temporarily closed tonight.
AHS explained this is because of an unexpected gap in physician coverage and the department will be closed from 6 p.m. tonight, November 21, until 8 a.m. tomorrow, November 22.
However, nursing staff will remain on-site in the Emergency Department to assess any patients who may stop in and to redirect them to other care options depending on their needs.
EMS will also be available to transport patients to alternative facilities as needed.
Because of the temporary closure, AHS says patients should call 911 if they have a medical emergency and to call Health Link at 811 for non-emergency health related questions. Those looking for non-emergency healthcare can also call their family physician.
“AHS is grateful for the support of local physicians who have helped to minimize this disruption for the community by extending existing shifts where possible. AHS also appreciates the support of surrounding healthcare centres and staff and would like to thank the community for its understanding during this time,” as stated in the media release.
