UPDATE # 1: Sept. 17, 2024, 3:50 p.m.
On Sept. 17, 2024 at approximately 9:00 a.m., members of the Mayerthorpe RCMP responded to information that a stolen vehicle from Edmonton Alta, may be in the surrounding area.
RCMP members quickly responded and were able to locate the vehicle, however, it fled from police and it was soon located abandoned. Mounties say the occupants were suspected to have fled on foot, and based on information obtained during the investigation, the occupants were also believed to have been armed.
RCMP members from surrounding detachments including members from the RCMP Emergency Response Team were deployed to the scene and facilitated an exhaustive search. The members of the Mayerthorpe RCMP no longer believe the suspects to be in the immediate area and do not believe there is any imminent risk to the community.
“We understand how situations such as this can make a community feel uneasy, but rest assured, your Alberta RCMP are there for you and working to keep our communities safe. We ask that the public remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or tips to the Mayerthorpe RCMP or Crime Stoppers,” reads a statement from an RCMP news release.

Mayerthorpe and Lac Ste. Anne County residents are being informed of two dangerous persons believed to be at large in the area following an armed robbery.
Police say they believe the two suspects are in the area of Highway 18 and Township Road 572A, between Range Roads 92 and 80.
The suspects are described as follows.
Suspect 1:
- White male about 30 years of age.
- Stands at 5’11” tall.
- Weighs approximately 205 pounds.
- Has dark hair and brown eyes.
- Was last seen in a cowboy hat and black sweater.
Suspect 2:
- White Male
- Stands at 6’0” tall.
- Weighs approximately 220 pounds
- Has brown hair and blue eyes
- Was last seen in a black flat-brim hat with red letters
Both men are considered armed and very dangerous. Anyone who see the suspects are being told not to approach them and to call 911 immediately.
Residents are being advised to not open their doors for strangers, or to pick up hitchhikers.
