In anticipation of the opening of the new Powerhouse Campus at 43 Street and 43 Avenue, the Town of Drayton Valley says it is making sign changes on the surrounding roadways to help improve vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle safety near the new school.
Officials say some of the changes include:
- The implementation of a new school zone, reducing the speed to a maximum of 30 km/h between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on school days.
- A stop sign will replace the yield sign for vehicles traveling eastbound on 44 Avenue approaching 43 Street.
- A crosswalk with flashing lights has been installed at 43 Avenue and 42 Street.
- New parking and stopping restrictions in/around the area.
Officials with Enforcement Services say team members will spend additional time in the area once the school opens to ensure the safety of the road users.
The Town of Whitecourt says Public Works will continue to monitor the area for any changes that may be required to improve traffic safety.
