The Drayton Valley Thunder are pleased to announce the hiring of Geoff Walker as their new Head Coach and Hockey Operations General Manager, effective immediately.
As a player, Walker recorded a 90 point season in the QMJHL and played in the AHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins farm club in Wilkes-Barre before finishing his career in Europe in 2018. Team officials say Walker has shown even more prowess as a Coach & GM, guiding his SIJHL teams to the past two Centennial Cup Championships. Last season, his Kam Lake Walleye finished in first place with a 40-11-1-1 regular season record and then went on to defeat Thunder Bay, capturing Kam Rivers’ first ever Bill Salonen Cup.
The organizations says Geoff Walker is a proven winner with recent success in building championship programs, instilling a culture that has helped many of his former players graduate to the NCAA, U-Sport, and professional ranks. The team says Walker is excited to join the Thunder family and to become part of the Drayton Valley community.
