The Drayton Valley Evergreen Farmers Market is getting ready to move into its new location.
The Farmers Market has operated for the past few years in the parking lot of the Life Church.
The Drayton Valley Ag Society recently acquired a parcel of land at 5015 Industrial Road, with the goal of building a permanent home for the Farmers Market. The new location is anticipated to have the added ability to host markets year round, and will run a few test markets in the off-season.
In order for this to happen, however, Town officials say the land needed to be rezoned to direct control. That means all changes to the land need to be approved by council. This is seen as a safeguard for the Farmers Market. Should the land change owners in the future, they will not be able to immediately deprive the Farmers Market of a home.
In their presentation, Town administration said they had been working closely with the Ag Society to develop a workable plan, and this was an amicable solution. In their proposal, Town administration said this plan gives the land the most flexibility.
Council voted to go ahead with the rezoning. No word yet, however, on when the Farmers Market will be moving in.
