1) Why are you running to be a Member of Parliament?
I am running because the riding of St Albert-Sturgeon River needs stronger and better representation. I feel that we have not been well-represented in this riding. For too long, this riding has been held back by an opposition party that has said “no” to almost everything, a party that has not reflected my values or the values I see in action across our community.
I am also running because I believe that Mark Carney is the leader we need now. The economic challenges that Canada faces are complex and wide-ranging. The threats to our sovereignty are serious and serious leadership is needed. Mark Carney has the experience and know-how to ensure Canada’s future as an economic powerhouse and a sovereign nation.
2) Why should people vote for you, and what skills do you have that make you suitable for this role?
I am a Chartered Professional Accountant with extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. I worked for the Federal government for 25 years at various departments including Health Canada, Department of Finance and Treasury Board and Consulting and Audit Canada. I worked in regional offices and at headquarters under both Liberal and Conservative governments. Moving on from the federal government, I was self-employed as a financial management consultant, helping organizations and businesses become more profitable and efficient. I understand the vital role that small business plays in building and sustaining our local economy as well as that of the country as a whole.
3) What will you advocate for; and do you intend to fully tow the party line?
My priority will always be to represent the priorities and concerns on my constituents. I will advocate for the people and businesses of St. Albert – Sturgeon River, ensuring that your voices are heard in Ottawa. Like many of you, I have children and grandchildren, and I want all of our children and grandchildren to grow and prosper in a Strong Canada full of opportunities.
As I’ve been out meeting people, I’ve heard that people are concerned about the serious economic challenges ahead—and the urgent need to build the infrastructure to get Alberta energy and agricultural products to new markets. And, I’ve heard your concerns about protecting their pensions as well as public healthcare. I will advocate for these and much more should I win the privilege to be your member of parliament.
4) How do you believe Canada’s federal government should tackle its current predicament with the United States, and where do you sit on Canadian sovereignty?
I am a proud Albertan and Canadian; and, I believe Canada is a sovereign nation and must remain so. We are stronger when we stand together and must now work together as never before. We need energy corridors. We need a fully integrated economy that is less reliant on the USA, integrating our supply chains and using our own resources in making our products. We need to build strong economic ties with true allies.
Mark Carney has already begun this work. He has demanded respect from President Trump and received it. He has reached outside of the US to begin expanding trading relationships quickly.
He has removed the divisive carbon tax and already lowered prices at the pump. He has brought together the premiers in common cause for Canada—and begun the work of freeing the flow of goods and people between provinces. That’s why I believe he is the leader Canada’s need now.
