Thousands of education support workers across the province are expected to return to work this week, including staff with the Parkland School Division.
Officials say deals have been ratified with nine divisions that saw more than 6,000 workers hit the picket lines in February. More than 3,000 of those workers returned to work in Edmonton on Thursday, March 20, as did support staff with CUPE 5543 and the Parkland School Division.
CUPE officials also say members of Local 40 at the Calgary Board of Education voted 92 per cent in favour of their settlement, while members of Local 3483 with the Black Gold Division voted 87 per cent in favour of their settlement on Wednesday, March 19. Staff with these divisions returned to work on Thursday.
Agreements have also been ratified between Fort McMurray Public Schools and CUPE Local 2545 and Fort McMurray Catholic Schools and CUPE local 2559.
Officials say members of CUPE Local 520 with the Calgary School District, CUPE Local 4625 with Sturgeon Public Schools and CUPE Local 5040 with the Foothills School Division are expected to vote on their agreements on March 20 and if accepted, could be back to work on Monday, March 24.
