Parkland RCMP have arrested and charged two individuals following a shooting on the Paul Band First Nation.
Mounties say they responded to reports of a shooting on the Paul Band First Nation at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Upon arrival, officers found a 41-year-old male suffering from serious injuries and a 46-year-old male who was assaulted with a weapon.

Officials say STARS Air Ambulance was called in to transport the 41-year-old victim to hospital where he remains in stable condition, while the 46-year-old was transported to hospital by EMS to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries and has since been discharged.
As a result of an investigation, police say they identified the male suspects as a 35-year-old and 41-year-old, both residents of the Paul Band First Nation.
Police say they were able to locate and arrest the suspects shortly after, thanks to assistance from multiple resources including, RCMP helicopters, RCMP Police Dog Services, the Parkland RCMP General Investigation Unit (GIS), the Parkland County Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), the Central Alberta District CRU (CAD CRU) and the RCMP Community Response Team.
The 35-year-old suspect has been charged with several offences, including:
- Attempted murder;
- Forcible confinement (x2);
- Aggravated assault;
- Assault:
- Unlawful discharge of a firearm;
- Being an occupant of a motor vehicle in which he knew that there was at that time a firearm;
- Unlawful possession of a firearm;
- Possess a firearm for a dangerous purpose;
- Fail to comply with a release order (x3);
- Breach of weapon prohibition order (x4).
The 41-year-old suspect has also been charged with several offences, including:
- Forcible confinement (x2);
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- Aggravated assault;
- Assault with a weapon;
- Being an occupant of a motor vehicle in which he knew that there was at that time a firearm;
- Unlawful possession of a firearm (x3);
- Possess a firearm for a dangerous purpose;
- Fail to comply with an Undertaking (x3).
Officials say both suspects were taken before a Justice of the Peace and were remanded into custody with their next court dates set for Feb. 26, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Stony Plain.
