Parkland RCMP are investigating after a collision between an ambulance and SUV sent multiple people to hospital.
Just before 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, Mounties say they responded to a report of a serious collision between an SUV and an ambulance at the intersection of Highway 627 and Range Road 273.
Upon arrival, police say emergency responders were already tending to multiple patients. Officials say STARS Air Ambulance was contacted to fly the driver and passenger of the SUV to the University of Alberta Hospital for treatment while the three EMS personnel were taken to hospitals in the area by a secondary ambulance.
Police say they remained on scene for several hours to determine the cause of the accident. Following an investigation, RCMP determined that the SUV was travelling southbound on Range Road 273 and was crossing Highway 627 when it collided with the ambulance travelling east on Highway 627. Mounties say the ambulance did have its emergency lights and sirens activated at the time of the collision as it was responding to a call for service.
Parkland RCMP are now clear of the collision site but say the investigation is still ongoing.
Police say updates will be provided as they become available.
