January 9
9:00 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Power Center Blvd – Complainant reported a male shoplifted on Jan. 7, Under investigation.
9:52 a.m. – Poplar Ridge area – Complainant reported suspects tried to steal an employee’s truck from a work yard. Descriptions of the vehicle and suspect were provided but patrols were unable to locate either.
11:31 a.m. – Tomahawk – Member on patrol located a white Chevy pickup in trees behind the Agriplex. Member determined the truck had been stolen out of Rocky Mountain House earlier in the day. Truck recovered and owner updated. Under investigation.
4:37 p.m. – Drayton Valley – File opened to investigate drug trafficking.
7:24 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 53 Ave – Complainant reported hearing an argument from a neighbouring apartment. Members attended and spoke to a female resident who stated she had been punched by her boyfriend, who had since left. Members observed visible bruising to support the allegation. The male was located at another residence, arrested and charged with assault and held for a telephone bail hearing. The male was subsequently released on conditions by a Justice of the Peace.
January 10
8:17 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a vehicle that tried to drive around a school bus with red lights flashing, almost hitting a child. Descriptors of the truck, trailer and driver were provided but members in the area did not locate it. No license plate was provided. The complainant advised he spoke to the driver who claimed to be new to the country and unaware of all the rules of the road.
10:02 a.m. – Brazeau County – Twp Rd 494 – Complainant reported a male had put his car in the ditch and was standing outside the vehicle, and after speaking to the male suspected he was impaired. Members attended and also believed the male was impaired; possibly by both drugs and alcohol. The male refused to provide a sample of his breath so was issued a provincial impaired driving suspension and his car was impounded once it had been pulled out of the ditch.
8:32 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a male in a gas station who appeared confused and possibly high. Members attended and located a known male who appeared to be under the influence of drugs and was acting strangely. Members arrested the male who was held in cells to sober up.
9:20 p.m. – Drayton Valley – RCMP Detachment – The male arrested on the previous file called 911 from the phone intended for legal advice, reporting he was freaking out and needed help. Members confirmed his wellbeing and moved him into a cell.
January 11
12:05 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 St – Complainant reported a neighbour was playing loud music. Members attended and the female said she was playing her music loud because the upstairs neighbour was also playing loud music. The female turned her music down and members could hear music from above, which eventually stopped. Members were still on the property when the female called to report her dog had left the apartment, and at the same time members observed her start throwing things from her balcony. Members subsequently arrested the female who was held in cells overnight to sober up and so her mental health could be better assessed in the morning. The following morning members transported the female to Ponoka Centennial Centre for treatment.
12:51 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 51 St – Members in the area observed an SUV driving the wrong way on the one-way street. A traffic stop was conducted and a MAS (mandatory alcohol screening) demand read to the driver. The novice driver provided two samples of her breath which showed that she had alcohol in her system. She was issued a provincial impaired driving suspension and the vehicle was impounded.
January 12
1:42 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 54 Ave – Complainant reported three sets of cross-country ski’s and poles were stolen from her car overnight. Another member located and recovered the ski’s the following day at a residence, though the potential suspect wasn’t present at the time. Ski’s were returned to the owner. Under investigation.
7:06 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 51 Ave – Complainant reported his 2013 GMC pickup stolen while he was inside a restaurant. The complainant had left the truck running to keep his dog warm. Member investigated and identified a suspect, and was able to determine her location in Edmonton. Member sought assistance from Edmonton Police who recovered the truck and arrested the female. Member arranged to have her returned to Drayton Valley where she was held in cells for a telephone bail hearing. The female was subsequently released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in court at a later date.
January 13
12:10 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 51 Ave – Member on patrol located a female with a warrant out of Edmonton. The female was arrested and held for a telephone bail hearing and subsequently released by a Justice of the Peace.
10:56 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 45 St – Complainant reported a dog attack while he walked by a residence. Member forwarded the file to Drayton Valley Enforcement Services who will be speaking to the dog’s owner. The complainant was chased but not actually attacked.
4:01 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported an ongoing issue of a male making threatening comments on Facebook directed at the complainant’s family, apparently over a dispute involving the sale of an animal. Member identified the suspect and attempted to contact him, so far without success. Under investigation.
4:08 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported finding a firearm in bags left at her residence by a family member. Member attended and seized the firearm, which was actually a very realistic looking BB gun. While at the location some cross-country ski’s and poles were recovered and returned to their rightful owner (see Jan. 12 at 1:42 p.m.). Under investigation.
10:51 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 53 Ave – Complainant reported several people throwing things at an apartment on the third floor of a building. Complainant then reported the group was at the front door, then walking around the building. Member in the area observed a female in the group who was known to have a warrant out of Calgary. Member was able to locate the female and arrest her, after which she was held in cells for a telephone bail hearing.
January 14
6:27 a.m. – Brazeau County – Violet Grove area – Complainant reported finding a burnt truck on a lease site, occurred sometime since the previous evening. Members attended and determined that the truck had been stolen from town sometime overnight, though the owner wasn’t yet aware as the truck hadn’t been used much lately. Under investigation.
7:50 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant reported his truck stolen within the past five minutes. Members patrolled extensively for the truck and advised neighbouring detachments, without success. Later in the day the truck was observed in the Thorsby/Pigeon Lake area in relation to a report of snowmobiles being stolen. With assistance from several units two males were located and arrested and the truck was recovered. Charges against two males are pending with the Thorsby RCMP.
10:23 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 Ave – Complainant reported his gym bag and a coat stolen from the gym, occurred on Jan. 7. Under investigation.
1:57 p.m. – Drayton Valley – A male attended the detachment to turn himself in on a warrant from Calgary. Member confirmed the warrant and released the male with a court date as requested by Calgary Police.
5:55 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 St – Complainant reported returning home and finding some items missing from his apartment. Under investigation, potential suspect identified.
7:08 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 91 – Oilfield security personnel reported a male on a lease site likely stealing propane. Members attended and arrested the male who was in the process of transferring propane to a homemade tank he had on a trailer behind his truck. Members had staff from the oil company attend as the tank had been damaged and was now venting propane. A 62-year-old male from Brazeau County was arrested and held for a telephone bail hearing. He was subsequently released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in court at a later date.
January 15
7:54 a.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported an older truck on an inactive lease site, currently having difficulty in the snow. Members attended and located two known males having difficulty getting off the site. Nothing damaged or stolen, though it is suspected they were on a scouting mission for items to steal, and not looking for firewood as claimed. Members remained until they had left the area.
9:49 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 51 St – Complainant reported a male trespassing in a store and that he had previously shoplifted and shouldn’t be in the business. Under investigation.
1:03 p.m. – Brazeau County – Lodgepole area – Complainant reported locating a pickup on its side, on a lease site. Member attended, truck had been reported stolen Dec. 19. Truck appeared to have been parted out and abandoned. Under investigation.
2:19 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 54 St/47 Ave – Complainant reported ongoing issues of youth causing traffic issues at the location in the mornings by pushing the crosswalk lights for no reason, disrupting traffic, pushing each other onto the road and even doing push-ups on the road. Information shared within the detachment so the area can be watched in the morning. Parents are also now reportedly aware of the issues and will be parenting appropriately.
3:08 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 47 Ave – Complainant reported graffiti on the side door of a senior’s home. Under investigation.
January 16
7:51 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave/53 St – Complainant reported a female carrying a large coil of copper wire which appeared to be heavy. The female was walking east near the Burger Baron. Member patrolled the area extensively but did not see the female, though she may have entered a nearby residence.
