Officials with Jasper National Park have provided an update on the Jasper Wildfire Complex.
In a post made to the Jasper National Park Facebook page, it was reported the park received about 10-15mm of rain overnight which led to minimal spread of the fire and that fire behavior is expected to remain low for the next couple of days.
Officials say crews are using this time to make as much progress as possible in efforts to suppress the wildfire and prevent further spread into the townsite. At this time, crews say the Jasper Wildfire Complex does not pose a threat to any other communities.
Officials have also provided a map of the estimated burn radius (as pictured above) showing the wildfire has burned nearly 36,000 hectares. Officials note, this map is a rough estimate of the affected area and should not be used for reference purposes.
More updates will be posted to the Jasper National Park Facebook page, the Town of Jasper Facebook page, the YourAlberta (Government of Alberta) Facebook page, the Municipality of Jasper website and the Emergency Alert section of the Government of Alberta website as they become available.
