Officials with Drayton Valley / Brazeau County Fire Services have issued a Total Fire Ban for both the Town of Drayton Valley and Brazeau County due to the extremely dry conditions. The Ban went into effect at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 11.
With a Total Fire Ban in place:
- All outdoor burning is prohibited, including campfires in approved pits.
- Charcoal Barbecues are prohibited.
- Existing fire permits will be suspended or cancelled.
- No new fire permits will be issued until the Total Fire Ban is lifted.
Officials note that propane or natural gas barbecues, portable propane fire pits and catalytic or infrared-style heaters are not affected by this ban.
A Total Fire Ban occurs when the fire hazard in the area is very high. Officials say wildfires can start easily from most causes especially unattended campfires or cooking fires. Wildfires may become serious and difficult to control if not successfully contained while small.
