The Drayton Valley Thunder wrapped up the regular season with back-to-back games on March 1 and 2, finishing ninth in the league.

On Friday, March 1, the Drayton Valley Thunder were at the Centennial Civic Centre Arena in Lloydminster, losing 5-2 to the Bobcats.
Alessio Nardelli scored the first goal of the game for the Bobcats at 5:02 in the first period. Blake Setter and Ben Aucoin were credited with the assists on Nardelli’s sixth goal of the season.
Dryden Tomkow tied the game 1-1 for the Thunder at 9:08 with his third goal of the season. Nicco Camazzola and Mattias Schoffner assisted on the game-tying goal.
Ben Aucoin then put the Bobcats back on top with his 30th goal of the season, scored on the power play, at 14:55 with assists from Caden Cabana and Blake Setter.
Caden Steinke’s 14th goal of the season, scored at 19:02 and assisted by Caden Cabana would be the eventual game-winning goal for Lloydminster.
At the end of the first period, The Lloydminster Bobcats had outshot the Drayton Valley Thunder 9-7 and took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
Aidan LaRose started the second period with a goal for the Bobcats at 2:09. Emmett Nordin and Teague McAllister assisted on LaRose’s eighth goal of the season which put Lloydminster up 4-1.
Ben Aucoin extended the Bobcat’s lead to 5-1 with his 31st goal of the season, scored at 9:07 and assisted by Michael Carter.
At the end of the second period, the Lloydminster Bobcats had outshot the Drayton Valley Thunder 13-9 and took a 5-1 lead into the second intermission.
Thunder forward Ben Winkelmann then scored the only goal of the third period, on the power play, at 17:11. Winkelmann’s sixth goal of the season was assisted by Turner McIntyre and Ty Gordon.
The Lloydminster Bobcats outshot the Drayton Valley Thunder 11-6 in the third period and 33-22 in total on their way to a 5-2 victory.

On Saturday, March 2, the Drayton Valley Thunder were at the R.J. Lalonde Arena in Bonnyville where they lost 4-3 to the Pontiacs.
Bonnyville’s Tyler Blocha scored the first goal of the game on the power play, at 6:59 in the first period. JR Ashmead and Jack McAra were credited with assists on Blocha’s 18th goal of the season.
Kurt Gurkan tied the game 1-1 for the Thunder at 13:54 with a power play goal. Ty Gordon and Adam Grenier picked up assists on Gurkan’s 12th goal of the season.
Nicolas Beaudoin scored his 22nd goal of the season for the Pontiacs, on the power play, at 16:27 with assists from Luka Sukovic and Max Seguin.
At the end of the first period, the Bonnyville Pontiacs had outshot the Drayton Valley Thunder 16-10 and took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
Clarence Beltz scored his 13th goal of the season for the Pontiacs at 4:46 of the second period. Jonas Schmidt and Joshua Simpson earned the assists.
At 7:58, Nicolas Beaudoin scored his second of the game for the Pontiacs. Braydon Vandenbilche and Levi Green assisted on Beaudoin’s 23rd goal of the season.
At the end of the second period, the Bonnyville Pontiacs had outshot the Drayton Valley Thunder 15-8 and were leading 4-1.
Thunder winger Adam Grenier then scored the only two goals of the third period. The first, his 21st of the season, came on the power play at 5:28 with assists from Sammy May and Ty Gordon.
Grenier’s second goal, and 22nd of the season, was scored at 11:57. Ty Gordon and Connor Farren were credited with the assists.
The Drayton Valley Thunder outshot the Bonnyville Pontiacs 12-8 in the third period but were outshot 39-30 in total as the Pontiacs won 4-3.

With a record of 19-35-2-1 for a total of 41 points, the Drayton Valley Thunder finished ninth in the Alberta Junior Hockey League 2023/24 season.
As the ninth-seeded team, the Drayton Valley Thunder will now take part in a best-of-five Play-In-Series against the eighth-seeded Camrose Kodiaks.
