Sentencing is scheduled next month for a man charged in a fatal collision near Mink Lake, AB, a year-and-a-half ago.
Rudy Bird, 41, of Paul Band First Nation, is scheduled for sentencing in Stony Plain Court of Justice on Feb. 27, 2024.
It was Aug. 4, 2022 at about 4:15 a.m., when Parkland RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision in the Mink Lake area of Highway 770.
Mounties say the driver of one of the vehicles, a 59-year-od woman from Warburg, AB, was pronounced deceased on scene. The occupants of the second vehicle fled the area, police say.
Following a lengthy investigation, RCMP arrested and charged Rudy Bird of Paul Band First Nation, and charged him with the following:
- Criminal negligence causing death
- Fail to remain at the scene of a collision causing death
- Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited;
- Possession of property obtained by crime over five thousand dollars.
