A central Alberta MLA is the latest to offer their endorsement to Travis Toews’s campaign for leadership of the United Conservative Party.
Mark Smith, the MLA for Drayton Valley-Devon, calls Toews, “a man of strong conservative principles.”
“I believe he can reach out to all facets of the Conservative family and unite us around a vision that will speak to all Albertans in the upcoming 2023 General Election,” said Smith.
Toews is grateful for the endorsement.
“I’m proud to have Mark – a strong voice for Albertans and the people of Drayton Valley-Devon – stand with me,” said Toews. “I’m humbled by and grateful for his support. I know the importance local MLAs have in their communities, I know that the people of his riding have a strong voice at the table.”
Toews is just one candidate in what is shaping up to be a crowded leadership race.
He is joined by MLAs Brian Jean, Rajan Sawhney, Leela Aheer, Todd Loewen and Rebecca Schulz, as well as former MLA Danielle Smith, former Wildrose candidate turned small-town mayor Bill Rock, physician Raj Sherman, as well as former banker Jon Horsman.
The United Conservatives will be electing their new leader on Oct. 6.
