For the first time in several years, Canada Day festivities are returning to Rotary Park in Drayton Valley.
It is the centerpiece of a full day of events going on through Drayton Valley on July 1, 2022.
It starts with the Legion Pancake Breakfast at the Legion Hall, starting at 7 a.m.
The parade then begins at 10 a.m. The parade is again being hosted by the Drayton Valley Lions Club.
The party then starts at Rotary Park at 11 a.m.
Community organizations from around the Drayton Valley area will have booths set up, providing a wide variety of activities. Among the activities are carnival games, and snacks.
Jennifer Finn, the Canada Day planning committee chair, is promising inflatables for the kids, a caricature artist, and a balloon artist.
Drayton Valley favourites the No Hitchhikers Band will be providing live music.
Finn says it feels good to be back in the park, after doing scaled-down Canada Day events over the past few years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There was still a parade last year, but for events, all we did was a decorating contest,” remembers Finn.
The people are excited as well, as Finn shares she has already heard a lot of positive feedback.
“We have had a lot of response, and a lot of people sharing and commenting on our Facebook page,” explains Finn. “I think we are going to have a really good turnout this year.”
The festivities at Rotary Park wrap up at 3 p.m. The action then moves to Lions West Valley Park for the fireworks at 10:45 p.m.
Finn does remind you that some of the events require money, and debit machines will be few and far between. So please bring cash.
