Brazeau County and the Drayton Valley RCMP are getting ready to help out local charities this Christmas.
The two organizations are hosting their fourth annual Cram the Cruiser event on Dec. 10.
Starting at 4 p.m., a police cruiser will be parked in front of the Drayton Valley Wal-Mart, with the goal to stuff it full of donations for the Drayton Valley Food Bank and Santa’s Anonymous.
The organizer of the event is Brazeau County Community Peace Officer Steve Goodman. Goodman says he got the idea when he saw other police services doing similar fundraisers.
“I thought, what a great idea it would be to support our local food bank and Santa’s Anonymous,” says Goodman.
The event has been very successful in years past. In 2020, it brought in 650 pounds of food, 375 toys, and the Food Bank and Santa’s Anonymous each got $3300 in cash donations.
Goodman says the cruiser is usually stuffed within the first hour, but that should not stop people from making a donation.
“We have an enclosed trailer there, and we will periodically declutter the cruiser so we can cram in more!” says Goodman.
Some of the donations they are looking for are non-perishable food items for the Drayton Valley Food Bank, and new, unwrapped toys for Santa’s Anonymous.
The cruiser will be accepting donations until 9 p.m.
