The Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre will be getting more than $650,000 in upgrades under the province’s Rural Health Facilities Revitalization Program.
The renovations will be focused on the hospital’s emergency department. It will include a complete redesign and renovation of the triage area to improve operational efficiency and patient safety. Work is expected to start in the coming years and more detailed timelines will be released once the project is underway.
In a statement, Health Minister Tyler Shandro said, “All Albertans, no matter where they live, deserve and need access to our world-class health system, and they need it close to where they live. This revitalization project helps make that a reality, and is part of our commitment to manage and improve health infrastructure and services across Alberta.”
MLA for Drayton Valley-Devon, Mark Smith, said of the announcement, “The community is pleased to have this investment in health care. Investments like this one will make sure that the facility can deliver safe, efficient emergency care in Drayton Valley, when members of the community or their loved ones are sick or injured.”
A further $3.8 million in government funding has already been spent at the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre, including repairs to the roof, boilers, sidewalk, elevator and updates to the nurse call system.
The province’s Rural Health Facilities Revitalization Program is putting $50 million towards Alberta’s rural hospitals over the next three years.
